Remo and Chiun vote for vengeance when death hits the campaign trail
![]()
It was your ordinary California campaign. Rona Ripper promised to snuff out smokers. Barry Black, JR., fresh from his latest mystical experience, had the flake vote cornered. And newcomer Enrique Esperanza offered hope to the hopeless, which included just about everybody. Trouble was, someone was making the candidates for bullets, not ballots...and unless Remo broke free of the official orders that hog-tied him, and Chiun snapped the spell that TV reporter Cheeta Ching cast over him, this race would end in a very dead heat...

California politics. Probably the only place that has stranger politics than Chicago. Esperanza is an oily character who brings in every Hispanic from across the country to vote in the CA election. He bribes his voters with Oreo cookies.
And even worse - he has Master Chiun on his side. Woe is the election. Chiun has been promised the position of Treasurer of California. To Chiun that means one thing: All the treasure in California. To make things worse for Remo, Cheeta in after his Genes again.
This is the book where Cheeta gets the reputation as a shark - by eating, literally, the remains of her cameraman after being trapped in an explosion. This is also where she becomes "preggers" - is Chiun the happy daddy-to-be? Remo's inquiring mind wants to know!
The situation gets even worse, when Enrique hires Chiun to get rid of Remo - permanently.
It's a real fun read and a wild ride in the California political landscape.
